Junior Achievement of Hawaii Island congratulated 56 young entrepreneurs and awarded $3,000 in scholarships during the 35th “Futures Unlimited” Banquet in January.
Junior Achievement of Hawaii Island congratulated 56 young entrepreneurs and awarded $3,000 in scholarships during the 35th “Futures Unlimited” Banquet in January.
The program helps high school students develop entrepreneurship skills through creating a small business, from product development to marketing and sales. The student businesses participating in this cycle were Aloha Flare sponsored by Bank of Hawaii, Aloha Supplied sponsored by HPM Building Supply, and A.L.O.H.A. sponsored by Big Island Toyota.
Aloha Supplied was named Company Of The Year and also was honored for having the highest sales at $7,489 and outstanding president Meagan Kuali‘i. Outstanding vice presidents Ciera Luna and Nowell MataBishop of A.L.O.H.A. and Kenneth Kitahata, Eve Paguirigan and Jaysha Alonzo-Estrada of Aloha Supplied also were honored.
In addition to the awards, $3,000 in scholarships were awarded to five seniors who excelled in the program and in scholastic life: Alonzo-Estrada, Forest Bardwell-Jones, Ariel Gomes-Cuba, Kuali‘i and Dayton Towata.
Junior Achievement was founded in 1919 to foster work readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy skills in students nationwide. The organization is powered on Hawaii Island by volunteers from the business community.
